Your iSpindel, logged to your brew.

Point your iSpindel's HTTP service at BrewForge. Every reading lands on the brew the device is attached to, with gravity, temperature, projected final gravity and a spunding forecast.

Readings on the brew, not in a spreadsheet

Attach your iSpindel to a brew and its readings go straight into that brew's fermentation log. The chart shows gravity and temperature, and BrewForge projects where final gravity will end up.

  • Gravity and temperature chart on the brew's Fermentation tab
  • Projected final gravity and a spunding valve forecast
  • Battery voltage and tilt angle stored with every reading
  • Move the iSpindel to the next brew when this one is done

Calibrate with a gravity offset

Your iSpindel's polynomial lives on the device. If it reads a few points high or low, set a Gravity Offset in the device settings in BrewForge and it is added to every reading.

Hydrom works the same way

The Hydrom uses the iSpindel protocol. Pick Hydrom as the device type, then in the Hydrom's menu open Services, activate the HTTP client service and paste the webhook URL as server address. Enable DeepSleep for scheduled transmissions, save the settings and use the Test button to check the connection.

Set up in three steps

You need an iSpindel that is already calibrated and connected to your Wi-Fi. BrewForge shows the same instructions after you create the device, and again under Setup Instructions in the device menu.

  1. 1
    Add the device in BrewForge
    Open Devices, click Add Device, choose iSpindel (or Hydrom), give it a name and create it. Copy the webhook URL BrewForge shows you.
  2. 2
    Configure your iSpindel
    In the iSpindel configuration portal choose HTTP as service type, enter brewforge.sh as server and 443 as port, and paste the webhook URL into the path field. Save.
  3. 3
    Attach it to a brew
    Use Attach to Brew in the device menu, or connect the device from the brew's Fermentation tab. The next reading shows up on that brew.

Example payload

This is the standard JSON the iSpindel's HTTP service sends. BrewForge reads gravity, temperature, battery and angle.

Temperatures with "temp_units": "F" are converted to °C. Gravity in °Plato is converted when the payload marks it with "gravity-unit": "P".

POST /api/devices/webhook200 OK
{
  "name": "iSpindel-FV1",
  "angle": 41.2,
  "temperature": 10.1,
  "temp_units": "C",
  "battery": 3.98,
  "gravity": 1.017,
  "interval": 900
}

If readings don’t show up

  • The device says "Awaiting first data…": check that the iSpindel has Wi-Fi with internet access and has woken up since you saved the configuration.
  • Copy the complete webhook URL, including ?key=…. Without the key BrewForge can't tell which device is sending.
  • Readings arrive but not on your brew: attach the device to the brew.
  • Open Recent Data on the device to see the last payloads BrewForge received.
  • Gravity a few points off: set a Gravity Offset in the device settings.

Hydrometer logging is included in every plan: Free (up to 20 brews), Basic and Pro.

FAQ

iSpindel questions

Do I need to install an iSpindel app?

No. BrewForge is a web app. Your iSpindel sends its readings over HTTP to the webhook URL of your BrewForge device, and you look at the chart in the browser on your computer or phone.

Does BrewForge work with the Hydrom?

Yes. The Hydrom speaks the iSpindel protocol. Choose Hydrom as device type, activate the HTTP client service on the Hydrom and paste the webhook URL as server address.

How often does BrewForge store a reading?

Your iSpindel decides when it sends, based on the interval configured on the device. BrewForge stores at most one reading about every 15 minutes per device; readings in between only update the device's latest values.

Do I need a paid plan to connect an iSpindel?

No. Hydrometers can be connected on every plan, including Free (up to 20 brews). Basic ($19.99/year) removes the brew limit.
