Recipes that predict, not guess.

A recipe designer that models your mash, your hops and your water — so the numbers on screen are the numbers in the fermenter.

Final gravity from your mash schedule

Most brewing software predicts FG from the yeast's attenuation alone. BrewForge also looks at how fermentable your wort will be: a 63 °C beta rest and a 69 °C single infusion give different beers, and the prediction reflects that.

  • Single infusion, step and decoction mashes
  • Fermentability from rest temperatures and times
  • Crystal, roasted and dextrin malts lower attenuation
  • Override FG when you know better

Hops, including whirlpool curves

Whirlpool additions rarely stay at one temperature. Describe how your wort cools in a hopstand curve profile and BrewForge integrates the isomerisation over that curve instead of guessing with a single number.

  • Tinseth IBU with BU:GU and relative bitterness ratio
  • First wort, mash, boil, whirlpool and dry hop additions
  • Reusable hopstand temperature-curve profiles
  • Scale hops to a target IBU

Water chemistry and mash pH

Start from your water report, RO or a classic profile like Pilsen or Burton, choose a target and let BrewForge suggest the salt additions.

  • 10 salts: gypsum, calcium chloride, epsom, baking soda, chalk and more
  • Lactic, phosphoric, citric, hydrochloric, sulfuric acid and acidulated malt
  • Mash and sparge additions, blending with a second water source
  • Salt solver towards a target profile, SO₄:Cl ratio
  • Estimated mash pH and the acid needed to hit your target

Mash steps, decoctions and water volumes

Brewing a traditional lager? Plan a double decoction with the pull volume for every step. Equipment profiles keep volumes and losses consistent across all your recipes.

  • Infusion, temperature and decoction steps
  • Decoction pull volumes and infusion temperatures
  • Strike water, grain absorption and displacement
  • Equipment profiles for boil-off, losses and efficiency

BJCP 2021 styles while you edit

Versions, scaling and brew day

Every brew keeps its recipe, its measurements and its results together. Brew it again as a new version and compare.

  • Numbered versions and branches (v2 → v2.1) in your Recipe Book
  • Scale by volume, efficiency or to another equipment profile
  • Printable recipe sheet, brew day sheet and fermentation log

Calculators and units

11 calculators sit next to the recipe designer: ABV & attenuation, Refractometer, Hydrometer correction, Yeast pitch & starter, Carbonation & priming, Spunding, Strike water, Step & decoction rests, Dilution & boil-off, Unit converter, Hop freshness. Every unit can be set on its own — litres or gallons, kilograms or pounds, °C or °F, SG or °Plato, SRM or EBC.

FAQ

Recipe design questions

How does BrewForge predict final gravity?

Instead of only using the yeast's attenuation, BrewForge estimates how fermentable your wort is from the mash schedule: saccharification temperature, multi-step mashes, extra rest time and the share of crystal, roasted and dextrin malts. You can always override the predicted FG.

Which IBU formula does BrewForge use?

Tinseth. It covers boil additions, first wort hops, mash hops and whirlpool/hopstand additions. Hopstand additions can follow a temperature curve profile that is integrated over time, instead of a single fixed temperature.

Does the water calculator estimate mash pH?

Yes. It estimates mash pH from your grist and water and tells you how much acid you need to reach your target. It supports 10 brewing salts, lactic, phosphoric, citric, hydrochloric and sulfuric acid, acidulated malt, mash/sparge splitting and blending with a second water source.

Which style guidelines are included?

BJCP 2021 with 93 styles (categories 1–26) including OG, FG, IBU, colour and ABV ranges. You can also create your own styles.
